Is That Job Still Hiring? Why Fresh Job Listings Matter

Searching for a job takes time.

You update your resume, read through a job posting, research the employer, write an application and hit submit, only to wonder whether anyone is actually hiring for the position.

It’s a frustration that has become common enough to earn its own name: ghost jobs.

These are job postings that appear to represent an available opportunity but may no longer be actively hiring, may have already been filled, or may remain online long after an employer’s hiring needs have changed.

For people searching for jobs in Niagara and elsewhere, that uncertainty matters. When you’re putting real time into every application, you should have some confidence that the opportunity is still available.

Outdated Job Postings Aren’t Harmless

There are plenty of legitimate reasons an old job posting might remain online.

An employer may have forgotten to remove it. A position may have been filled faster than expected. Hiring plans may have changed. Or a large job platform may continue displaying a listing long after it was originally posted.

From a job seeker’s perspective, though, the result is the same.

They may spend valuable time applying for an opportunity that is no longer available.

When that happens repeatedly, it becomes harder to know which job postings are worth pursuing.

Searching for work already requires a significant investment of time and effort. Candidates shouldn’t also have to investigate whether every job they find is still actively hiring.
